Community Matters

We love being part of the community in Newport Pagnell & Olney

We try to get out of the surgery as often as we can to support Community events and if we can't attend, we try to sponsor.

Most Recent

Nurse Gill has attended schools and playgroups to talk to our younger citizens about pet care.

We held a meeting for our local pet professionals (groomers, charity volunteers, dog walkers, etc.) The topic was "all things itchy".

We attended Willen Hospice "Walk for Willen" and helped raise funds for the hospice via our doggy prize tombola. We also spent our time checking microchips of every dog we met!

We were out and about at the Waterside festival in Great Linford. Here, we raised funds for the local RSPCA. We also sponsored the rosettes for the dog show which this year included a heat for 'Scrufts'.

At the local rescue, Hula, we sponsored the classes 'Best Rescue Dog' and 'Most Handsome Dog' at one of their fundraiser dog shows.

Another dog show we were pleased to sponsor rosettes for, was the local Weston Underwood fun dog show.

The Community Festival at Great Linford was another chance for us to get out with our fundraising Doggy Prize tombola and raise funds for local charity, Medical Detection Dogs.

We have contributed and acted as a food drop off point for both our local RSPCA & Cat Protection. These local groups of volunteers get no funding from their respective head offices, so it's really fulfilling to be able to support their endeavours.

The team took part in a very personal challenge at the Milton Keynes Race for Life. We raised over  £1k (with our clients' help) for cancer research in memory of our boss Jo Johnstone, who lost her battle with Myeloma.

The Johnstone family raised money for Myeloma UK by cycling from John O'Groats to Lands End in memory of their wife and mother.

We attended a very special fundraiser for the Jessica Herman fund & Willen Hospice at the Scot Sport & Social Club in Bletchley. We sponsored the rosettes for the fun dog show and vet Amy judged the classes. Our doggy prize tombola raised enough money for us to buy a whopping 400 sachets of kitten food for the hungry strays being looked after by our local RSPCA volunteers.

We hosted a client education evening on August 21st. The talk was about helping you understand why certain things get your pets stressed - thunder, fireworks, moving house, new pet or baby, car travel and more. And, importantly, what you can do about it!

2016

We need to thank Olney based Grand Rosettes for again supplying us informative images: Personalised rosettes from Grand Designs Local company with so many rosettes to donate to local charities for local dog shows - this year we have used a lot! Justina has personalised them for this year - let us know if you have a 'Willow Winner' rosette.

One of the shows we judged this year was the Hula show at the Informative image: Community Matters Hula dog show, June 16 Newport Pagnell Carnival. Great fun meeting so many dogs and their families - Laura and Dawn had a tough time choosing winners!

The show ended in time for us to watch our duck lose the charity Duck race... ah well, next year.

2015

The new year kicked off with a very generous handover of gifts to local pet charities following our X-mas appeal - we really do have the best, most supportive friends!

Nurse Gill visited the young future pet owners at Germander school in March and Nurse Stacey assisted at an pet awareness week event at Bradwell Village school. The students got to show off their bandaging techniques on an array of stuffed toys!

The team, supported by a representative from Merial UK, supported the Gt Linford parish council "flea & tick roadshow" in May 2015. We also checked microchips and were thrilled to get 100% successful readings!

May saw Hula animal rescue host their fete and we were delighted to sponsor their dog show once again.

Coming Up

Willow will be supporting the famous Olney Cherry fair this year (June) and we are really pleased to be able to supply the rosettes for the fun dog show - see you there?

We are finalising a first aid talk for later in the year - a must attend for anyone who has a pet!

If you would like to invite the team to an event or want us to host an event, please let us know and we will try to help:
